For the past year COVID-19 has impacted our world in numerous ways. Although we thought by a year after the spread the United States would be in better shape, unfortunately that is not the case. It’s imperative that we all work together to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

Here at California Recovery Center Labs, we are working tirelessly to combat the spread of COVID-19. One of the best ways to help slow the spread is to get tested frequently. Today we’re going to discuss what COVID-19 is, if cases are on the rise in California, and how we can help you.

What Is COVID-19?

Coronavirus disease 2019 is a new strain of coronavirus that has never been previously identified in humans. COVID-19 was first detected in Wuhan, China, and is an outbreak of a respiratory illness. Coronavirus is a family of viruses that are known to cause illnesses ranging from a common cold to more severe diseases. Other coronaviruses that have spread throughout the world are Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

Symptoms of COVID-19 consist of:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Repeated shaking
  • Chills
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Muscle Pain

Symptons can present themselves up to 14 days after being exposed.

Are COVID-19 Cases Bad in California?

COVID-19 cases within California have seemed to start getting better when looking at the progression of cases. In looking at the data, it is clear that positive COVID cases and COVID deaths have been on the decline since the start of the pandemic. Even though cases are on a decline and people have been being vaccinated, it’s important to still take precautions, especially for those who are at higher risk for serious illness.  Some of the precautions you can take are:

  • Get a COVID-19 vaccine if it’s available to you.
  • Stay home when possible.
  • Avoid contact with those who are sick –  if someone is sick within your home, isolate them in a separate room if possible.
  • Get food brought to your home – whether groceries or fast food,  you should actively try to get food brought to your house through family, social, or commercial networks. Make sure to wipe off the containers with disinfectant wipes once you receive them.
  • Listen to public health officials –  make sure to listen to the recommended community actions to reduce exposure and the risk of an outbreak.
  • Wear a mask!

How Can I Get Tested for COVID-19 in California?

California is partnered with Verily and OptumServe which offers free and confidential testing statewide. These tests are available to everyone including those who are in underserved communities and even individuals who are at high risk. Verily offers drive-thru testing and has many sites around the state of California. OptumServe offers tests by appointments for all individuals. If you need a COVID-19 test ASAP, California Recovery Center Labs has an easy online booking portal available here. We offer drive-through testing, tests for pick up, and tests to be delivered to your home. We also offer expedited test results which are perfect for those who are traveling or wanting to see family.

There are currently two different types of COVID-19 tests available. These tests are diagnostic tests and antibody tests. A diagnostic test shows whether or not you have an act of coronavirus infection. Of the diagnostic tests, there is a viral PCR test and a rapid test.

The antibody test will let you know if you had COVID-19.
